Regina Ferreira Bento, M.D., Ph.D.

Regina started her professional life as a psychiatrist (M.D., Federal University of Rio de Janeiro , 1977), studying the relationship between work and mental health. Interested in learning more about the nature of work and organizations, she went on to pursue graduate studies in business. Regina earned an M.S. in Management at COPPEAD ( 1979), the premier center for management education in Brazil. She then came to the United States for doctoral studies at BS and MIT (Ph.D. Sloan School of Management , MIT , 1990).

Regina comes to CCTL from the Merrick School of Business , University of Baltimore , where she was the Hatfield-Merrick Distinguished Professor of Management. Prior to joining UB, she was a faculty member at COPPEAD (1980-1983) and UC Riverside (1988-1991). She was also a Visiting Professor at the Sloan School, MIT (1999).

Regina has received numerous teaching awards, including the USM Regents Award , the highest honor in the University System of Maryland . She was featured in a cover article on Teaching Excellence in BizEd, the AACSB Magazine. For 14 straight years Regina was among the Top 10 teaching evaluations at UB, where she received eight school-wide teaching awards. Regina was also Faculty of the Year at the University of California.

Regina has taught courses in OB, Leadership, Business Policy, HRM and Health Care Management. She has over 20 years of experience with the case method and has written thirteen cases and teaching notes. Regina was also one of the pioneers in online education in the country. She has developed and taught numerous web-supported and fully web-based courses since the early 1990's and has written extensively about pedagogical issues and innovations in distance learning.

Regina served in elected leadership positions in the Management Education and Development Division of the Academy of Management (Professional Development Workshop Chair, Program Chair, Division Chair), the Eastern Academy of Management (co-Vice President for Local Arrangements), the Organizational Behavior Teaching Society ("OB-1," the Keeper of the Magic). Regina is a member of the Management Education Research Institute Committee of the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) and a Senior Fellow at the Hoffberger Center for Professional Ethics .

Regina holds associate editor or editorial board positions in journals such as Sex Roles: A Journal of Research and Academy of Management Learning and Education. Her publications include an award-winning book; chapters in books published by the Harvard Business School Press, Sage, Jossey Bass and others; articles in journals such as Human Resource Management Journal, Information and Management, Communications of the AIS, Journal of Management Education, Journal of Managerial Psychology, and others.
